Don't you think the new DCFC album is fairly Postal Service-ish at times, though? Don't get me wrong... I love it. But, it almost sounds like the two projects should fuse and begin leading a more conjoined life. :)
Posted by timsamoff at September 26, 2005 1:25 PMYes, I agree, sort of, Tim. I think it still has enough "rock" to satisfy me, personally, but I do see what you're saying. There is a more prominent role of electronic instrumentation on Plans than the other albums.
"We Laugh Indoors" is probably one of my favorite DCFC songs overall.
Yours?

Posted by :: peder :: at September 26, 2005 2:32 PMI don't know, man. My sister is, like, 50, and she's listening to this albumn all the time. Are you losing your edge? Seriously, I'll have to take a listen.

All I can say is that your sister must have at least some good taste. I didn't get into the fact that DCFC's new album is on Atlantic, having dropped their local indie label of so many years. However, I still do think it's a great album and worth a listen, even to 50 year old female lawyers. Truly good music can (and should) transcend social boundaries, including generational and professional!).
I have most indeed NOT lost my edge. Am planning to see the Calexico/Iron and Wine show AND the American Analog Set both in October here in Portland. Perhaps I should e-mail your sis about these bands - maybe she's way ahead of you and already listening! ;)

Posted by :: peder :: at September 27, 2005 8:47 AMHmm. Does "Calexico/Iron and Wine show AND the American Analog Set" = smackdown? : ) Even if it doesn't count me jealous! As for DCFC, it is a great albumn. Listened a lot last night after reading your recommendation, you envelope pusher.

Posted by Clay Johnson at September 27, 2005 11:47 AMClay: HA! No, no "smackdown." LOL. There will be no smacking here at the blog. Perhaps I should have entitled it "blog sans smack". hehe
Glad you listened to the DCFC album and liked it. The new Calexico/Iron and Wine joint EP is also fantastic. Cheers, brother!

Posted by :: peder :: at September 27, 2005 12:38 PMBen Gibbard & Jimmy Tamborello record under the name The Postal Service; check out Jimmy Tamborello's other bands: Dntel (2001) & Figurine (1995-2004)
Posted by at October 18, 2005 9:55 AMTrue! Yes, big fan here of the Postal Service. I wasn't too impressed with Dntel's 2001 album (ambulance cover, if I'm not mistaken), but I havne't heard his Figurine material.
Thanks,
