Live Concert Review: Upper Left Trio
My wife and I took some friends to see Upper Left Trio last night here in downtown Portland at the swanky Heathman Hotel. The two long sets were fantastic, including a Radiohead cover and the majority of the rest were original compositions. If you haven't heard of this up and coming jazz trio from Portland, check out their website.
I've just uploaded all the tracks from their all-original first album "Cycling" (album cover to the right of the text). All members of the trio are accomplished in their own right (i.e., Charlie Doggett on drums and Jeff Leonard on bass), and the pianist, Clay Giberson, plays regularly with jazz guitarist Dan Balmer in his more experimental jazz group Go by Train.
Be sure to give them a listen and perhaps buy their CD. You won't be disappointed.
Let me know what you think of the trio.
